REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - British Secretary of State for Defense Philip Hammond will visit Indonesia on January 16 to strengthen relationship of both countries. His visit is also a follow up of Prime Minister David Cameron visit to Indonesia on April 2012 and President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono state visit to UK last November.

Hammond is scheduled to meet with his counterpart, Indonesian Minister of Defense Purnomo Yusgiantoro, and Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marty Natalegawa.

British Ambassador to Indonesia, Mark Canning, said on a press release that the visit portrayed UK commitment to strengthen defense cooperation with Indonesia. Canning said Indonesia, as the biggest democratic country in Southeast Asia and also playing a great role in maintaining regional security, was the British important partner.
