REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) hopes the manufacturer of London-based Kickers footwear in Indonesia, PT Mahkota Petriedo Indoperkasa, to withdraw the shoes containing pig skin. Director of the Assessment Institute for Foods, Drugs And Cosmetics (LPPOM) at MUI, Lukmanul Hakim, said the withdrawal would the Muslims' feeling.

"They are worried about the Kickers footwear inscribed with pig skin lining," Hakim said on Saturday.

He said that Kickers had already had halal stamp, then using pigskin on its products will be considered as a violation. Earlier on Dec. 20, a man who bought Kickers product, Winarto (48 years), found "pig skin lining" written on the shoes. He reported it to the police and deemed it as a violation to his consumer rights.
