Indonesia to stop sending domestic workers in 2017

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUALA LUMPUR - Government of Indonesia assures that the country will stop sending domestic workers abroad in 2017. Indonesia had made the road map, Minister of Manpowers and Transmigration Muhaimin Iskandar said, as reported by M Ikhsan Shiddieqy from Republika.

He claimed that government demanded the plan to be immediately implemented. However, empirically the market is very strong. He said the termination cannot be conducted at once. Through the road map, it will be hold in stage.

He admitted that several countries would object to the plan. Therefore, government will still send domestic workers after 2017 with several requirements. The workers must have certificate and specialization. They must also work in formal sector with certain work hours. Iskandar said Hong Kong and Taiwan accepted the plan.

Muhaimin Iskandar is in Malaysia with other delegation led by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. They attend the 9th Malaysia-Indonesia Annual Consultation.
