REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - A member of Commission V at Indonesian House of Representative, Arwani Thomafi, regrets the incident of unit power supply (UPS) outage in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Sunday. The incident led to the damage of radar installation, causing disruption to flight schedule.

"The incident inflicted flight safety and national economy. The total losses is massive," Thomafi said on Sunday.

He said that Soekarno-Hatta as a world class airport must have sufficient power reserve. The supply of electricity in airport is indeed from State Electricity (PLN), but Air Traffic Control must have its own power reserve.

He explained that Ministry of Transportation was responsible for flight navigation service. Government must form a body to serve flight navigation.

"I urge government to immediately conduct the mandate of Laws No.1/2009 on Flight to form a body of flight navigation service," he said.

Dozens flights disrupted

The management of Soekarno Hatta Airport, Angkasa Pura II (AP II), records that at least 64 flights were disrupted on Sunday due to radar damage. "About 39 outgoing flights, three divert flights and 22 incoming flight were interrupted," Secretary of AP II, Trisno Heryadi, said on Monday.

Several airlines claimed that their service was hampered. Garuda Indonesia noted that as many as their 30 flights were hampered. "About 20 outgoing flights are delayed," Spokesman of Garuda Indonesia, Pujobroto, said. Those flights were scheduled to fly to Bangkok, Thailand, Medan, Semarang, Yogyakarta and Batam.

"While 10 incoming flights cannot land in Jakarta," he added. He said that the incident inflicted many losses to Garuda.
