REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The fourth ministerial conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) generates Jakarta Declaration, a response to overcome on women's role in the development problems in OIC member countries.

"The declaration was agreed by 42 countries attended the conference," Indonesian Minister for Women Empowerment and Children Protection, Linda Amalia Sari Gumelar, said on Thursday.

OIC members encourage the enhancing of women's access towards productive resources. Every country is urged to create more job opportunities in small and medium enterprises (SME).

Gumelar said that Ministry of Cooperative and Small Medium Enterprises and Ministry of Communication and Informatics pioneered the act in Indonesia by promoting women to empower their ability through information and technology.

"Many Indonesian women are still green about technology. Whereas technology is important to empower economy in the family," she said.

The concept is successfully adapted by the members of the fourth ministerial conference of OIC. Several bilateral meetings are fruitful, as Kuwait for example, offers small business opportunity to Indonesian women.

Gumelar, as the chairman of the meeting, also said that women participation in economy must be supported with the fulfillment of their rights. Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister of People's Welfare, Agung Laksono, said OIC members must increase the intensity of joint initiative to accelerate the achievement. "Indonesia must encourage triangular cooperation between OIC members," he said.
