REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesia welcomes the cease fire in the Gaza Strip which came into effect on Wednesday evening at 9.00pm local time in Gaza (early Thusday in Indonesia). Indonesia also urges the resumption of peace talks between Palestine and Israel.

Since the conflict in the Gaza Strip started on 14 November, Indonesian Government has intensively taken steps through various forum to call all relevant parties to immediately cease military actions, prevent civilian casualties, and resume the peace process through negotiations, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday. Such steps include, among others, those taken by the President of the Republic of Indonesia during the 21st ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Phnom Penh on 18-20 November 2012.

This recent development in Gaza, particularly on the cease fire between the relevant parties, is in line with the aforementioned efforts by Indonesia. Indonesia further urges the resumption of negotiations within the Middle East peace process, based on the relevant resolutions of the United Nations, towards an independent Palestinian State that lives in peace and security with its neighbors.
