REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DENPASAR - The price of coal is predicted to reach 100 USD per tonnes in 2014. By 2013, the price would rise to 90 USD per tonnes. Currently, the price of coal is 83 USD per tonnes while in February, the price mounted to 120-125 USD.

"The tendency is that until 2013, the recovery is not significant," the Analyst and Managing Director of PT Coalindo Energy Indonesia Coal Index, Maydin Sipayung, said on Monday.

The significant global recovery is predicted to occur in 2014, in line with the regaining of global economy, the demand of coal from China and India will be increasing.

"However, it is also related to three year cycle," he said. The price of coal declined in 2009. Yet, by the early 2012, the price soared to 120 USD. He is optimistic that the price would get better in 2014.

Government, he added, did not have to draft a new policy to maintain the stability of coal price. Micro policy will only affect the price by eight percent, while macro factor such as global price of coal, oil, and economic growth contributes higher, which is around 65 percent.
