REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUWAIT CITY - As the trade balance is still on deficit on Indonesian side, Indonesia and Kuwait plans to boost cooperation on trade and investment. Indonesia-Kuwait trade volume in 2011 reached 1.28 billion USD.

Indonesian Ambassador to Kuwait, Ferry Adamhar, said Indonesia imported more from Kuwait than Kuwait to Indonesia. "It is because we import much oil from Kuwait," he said in Kuwait City on Monday as reported by Fitria Andayani from Republika. Adamhar expects Indonesian export to Kuwait to be increasing.

Meanwhile, the total volume trade between Indonesia and Kuwait is smaller than that of Indonesia and Saudi Arabia and Dubai. On its effort to improve trade, Indonesia offers its products in every open house held by Kuwait entrepreneurs. Indonesia also attends cultural exhibition held by Kuwait Government.

It is a successful step as retail entrepreneurs in Kuwait are attracted to Indonesian products. One of the biggest retail in Kuwait, Sultan Centre, expects Indonesia to supply furniture and foods to their shopping center.

Kuwait Government budgets 5.5 million USD per year channeled through Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development. Since 1961, Kuwait Fund has channeled 719 loans for 101 countries or around 13.72 billion USD.
