REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU - An Indonesian air force's fighter jet, Hawk-200, crashed in Kampar, Pekanbaru on Tuesday morning at 09.30 local time. No one was reportedly injured in the accident.
A local resident said several aircrafts were exercising while the Hawk 200 was smoking. "It suddenly fell," the resident said on Tuesday.
The aircraft took off at 08.56 for regular training. After 49 minutes of training, the aircraft planned to land in runway 36. But, the plane suffered a total loss before landing.
Official says the pilot, Reza Yori Prasetyo, is safe as he used ejection seat while the Hawk 200 TT-0212 was in a good condition. Air Squadron 12 Rusmin Nurjadin Airbase always uses the aircraft for daily training.
Air Force Commander Marshall Imam Sufaat emphasized that all Hawk 200 fleet would be grounded as the crash investigated by air force's internal team. The Hawk 200 is a single-seat, lightweight multirole combat fighter. The type is capable in use for air defence, air superiority, anti-shipping, air-denial, long-range interdiction, short-range close air support and ground attack.
