Indonesia welcomes peace agreement between Govt and MILF

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesia warmly welcomes peace agreement reached between the Philippines Government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). President of Philippines Benigno Aquino III stated on Sunday, October 7, that Government of Phillippines and MILF had reached preliminary agreement.

The Indonesian Ministry for Foreign Affairs said on the press release on Tuesday that the agreement reflected the strong commitment of the Government of the Philippines to create comprehensive peace in the Southern Philippines. Indonesia is also ready to provide support and assistance including exchange of experiences.

The Indonesian Ministry said that the peace would provide a comprehensive solution to the conflict that have taken many lives and material loss over the past four decades. Indonesia, as a close neighbor of Philippines, always supports the Philippines effort to create and to achieve peace with the Moro community in Southern Philippines. An Indonesian observer team is also participating in the International Monitoring Team which has been agreed by the Government of the Philippines and the MILF.
