REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JEDDAH - Indonesia submitted some proposals to balance the information of Islamic world to Secretary General of Muslim World League (Rabitah al-Alam al-Islam) Abdullah bin Abdul Muhsin Al-Turki, in Mecca following the result of International Conference of Islamic Media on December 13-15. Secretary General of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Bahrul Hayat, said the proposals encouraged the media in cooperating and news sharing.

The cooperation is important to anticipate and counter the negative news about Islam, such as denigration in film, cartoon, and irresponsible statement and action. Hayat, accompanied by the senior journalist Akhmad Kusaeni from Antaranews agency and Ikhwanul Kiram Mashuri from Republika, said that the mainstream information about Islam in the media was imbalanced. Hence, Islamic media must emerge to counterbalance information to the world and eliminate the stereotyping towards Islam as Muslims usualy associated with radicalism and terrorists.

Kusaeni also proposed the establishment of news portal in English, Arab, and Bahasa for the publication of Muslim activity in the world. The news and the information will be spread in social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Google search engine. "We are ready to launch the portal if Muslim World League approve," Kusaeni said.
