Minister: No single island sold to foreigner

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sharif Cicip Sutardjo said government had implemented tight guard towards all islands in Indonesia. "No one can work here without permission," Cicip said on Friday.

The statement was made related to the allegation that two islands in Indonesia, Gambar Island in Java and Gili Nanggu Island in Lombok, were sold to foreign party. The islands are managed by two certified entrepreneurs and occupied by 18 families working for tourism facilities. The local government and official notary, he said, would be the parties that responsible if the islands were sold.

Earlier, some reports in the media stated that two islands Indonesia, Gambar and Gili Nanggu, were for sale in the internet through www.privateislandonline.com. Gambar Island, with 2.2 hectare are, is offered for 6.8 billion IDR, while Gili Nanggu Island, 4.99 hectare, is 9.9 billion IDR. According to the site, the owner of Gili Nanggu offered the island including 10 cottages, seven bungalows, one restaurant, minibar, rooms, and turtle breeding.
