REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TANGERANG – Soekarno-Hatta Airport beefs up its safety and security as PT Angkasa Pura II, the management of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, will implement area navigation SID/STAR RNAV-1 on September 2012. The management also operates Navigation Sector in south side of airport control tower.

The President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II Tri S Sunoko said those facilities were expected to improve the safety and security in Soekarno-Hatta Airport and Flight Information Region (FIR). "The implementation of new procedure and facilities also anticipate the growth of flight traffic in the future," he said on Monday.

The new navigation sector in the south tower will reduce the time of aircraft queue. It also increases the ATC officers and pilot alerts.

The tower was only equipped with single deck control facing the north runway. It can decrease the efficiency of ATC officer’s movement in monitoring the plane in south runway. With double-deck control, the monitoring and navigating in both runways will be more efficient.

Meanwhile, RNAV or Area Navigation is a method that permits aircraft to operate on any desired course within the limits of self-contained system capability. RNAV procedure system covers RNAV Standard Instrument Departures (SID) and RNAV Standard Terminal Arrival Routes (STAR).

"With RNAV, the aircraft can fly in efficient route and travel through the imaginary points called waypoints," he explained.
