Huge fire set ablaze hundreds of furniture workshops and houses

About 300 hundred workshops and 150 semi permanent houses burned down in a fire accident in Pondok Bambu, Duren Sawit, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Huge fire burned down about 300 furniture workshops and 150 houses in Pondok Bambu, Jakarta, on Tuesday afternoon or two days after Muslims celebrate Eid al Fitr.. Most of the burnt houses are semi permanent buildings. 

‘Fire spread easily and burned semi permanent houses made of wood and multiplex,” Idris DN, an official from local fire brigade said and added that the loss caused by the fire could reach billions IDR. 

The site of accident is a dense populated area with lot furniture workshops. Local fire engines arrived at the scene 15 minutes since the blaze started but the fire was contained only 2.5 hours later. At least 35 fire engines from five areas in Jakarta were deployed to the scene. Meanwhile cause of the fire is still under investigation.
