Trillions IDR of investments in transmigration areas

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The investment in transmigration areas is expected to reach 20.3 trillion IDR by 2012 as a solution to push down the discrepancy of the development between the regions, according to the Minister of Manpower and Transmigration, Muhaimin Iskandar.

The ongoing development pattern, he said, time did not pay much attention to balance factor and then it led to the economic discrepancy, especially dichotomy of urban-rural area, remote-coast area, Java-outside Java, and west-east regions.

"The priority of the development in the transmigration location is also related to the low development in hinterland compared to the city," he said on Sunday.

The investment comes from business partnership between the migrant and local people and also between private and state-owned companies. He emphasized that it was the time for the ministry and the academics of university to prepare the development.

The Directorate General of the Development of Transmigration Areas in the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration, Jamaluddien Malik, added that the transmigration areas to be developed should be able to produce goods and services efficiently to meet the market demand.
