REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEIJING - Garuda Indonesia airline is preparing immigration service on the plane for Jakarta-Shanghai route. "The immigration officers for visa on board in Jakarta-Shanghai are conducting the training," Executive Director of Garuda Indonesia, Emirsyah Satar, said in Beijing on Monday.
Immigration on Board, he said, was an effort to increase the Shanghai tourists visit to Indonesia. China is one of the big tourism markets and Garuda tries to manage the flight service seriously.
"Garuda has agreed to support the target of a million China tourists to Indonesia in 2013," he said.
He explained that the amount of China tourists to Indonesia has not yet equaled to Indonesian tourists to China. According to the data in Garuda, the number of passengers from Shanghai to Jakarta in 2011 is recorded in 180,000 or about 36 percent of China passengers to Jakarta.
"From 50 million China tourists, only 1.5 million of them go to Indonesia. We should increase the service, especially in immigration," he said.
Garuda Indonesia has applied the Visa on Board service for Tokyo-Jakarta, Tokyo-Denpasar, Osaka-Jakarta, Dubai-Jakarta, and Seoul-jakarta.
The Manager of Garuda Beijing, Asa Perkasa, said, the Visa on Board for Jakarta-Shanghai will be operated in the late of 2012. "For China, we start with Shanghai because we already have daily flight using Airbus and with a good load factor," he said.
