REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Commercial and Islamic banking in Indonesia should be well prepared towards the upcoming ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015. With great potency on market sector and human resource, Indonesia could be a leading on drafting the norms in the integrated of ASEAN countries.
"Indonesia should be in leading position," the Islamic economist from Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), Irfan Syauqi Beik, said.
It means that Indonesia can lead in establishing integrated norms such as fiqh standardization used in halal products. But, he reminded the importance of strengthening some points especially in Islamic industry. AEC integration should be clear before the implementation, as it is very important for Islamic industry. "This industry cannot stand alone. We need cross border cooperation," he said.
For Islamic bank, integration is another challenge to improve better supported by strong regulation and domestic bank, the President Director of Islamic Bank Jabar Banten (BJB), A Riawan Amin, said. He said that government should prepare a play ground for domestic bank. "So far, the regulation is progressing," he said.
