REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The members of SBY’s Democratic Party keep pushing its two cadres, its chairman Anas Urbaningrum and Indonesian first lady Ani Yudhoyono, to be the candidates of 2014 presidential election. The wife of Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) could be one of Asian influential female leaders, the member of Democrat’s Advisory Board, Melani Leimena, insisted.
SBY will become the factor of Ani’s eminence in the future. “All Asian female leaders have such background as they cannot stand alone, for instance, Benazir Bhutto and Megawati. Their names are associated with people behind them,” said Leimena who is also the Deputy Chairman of People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR).
Anas Urbaningrum was a representation of young Democrat politicians with bright career, Leimena said. He was also seen as clever and polite young man. His background as the former chairman of executive board of the Islamic Student Association (PB HMI) was an advantageous background compared to other cadres.
Yet, Leimena admitted Anas could not be a sole figure of Democrat candidate as his name was allegedly mentioned in KPK’s graft case. “Anas should prove that he is innocent,” she said on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, another member of Democrat’s Advisory Board, Hayono Ismam, said the media should not tempt SBY’s decision to not nominate his wife as the candidate of president. Ismam believed SBY commitment not to make his family as the candidate was a positive move for Indonesian political development.
