REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUTA – The Ministry of Transportation and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) holds Regional Runway Safety Seminar in Bali on May 21-24. First in Asia Pacific, the event is to promote safety on flight, especially in runway.

According to ICAO data from 2006 to 2010, 59 percent of flight aviation problems happen due to the poor runway. Compared to other causes, such as failed system, fire, and turbulence, then almost 60 percent of accidents occur in the runway.

A handful of foreign and domestic airport operator and airlines will attend the event. Meanwhile, Indonesian government seeks the direct flight to US as the passengers from Indonesia should transit in some countries before reaching US.

“We will discuss it with Association of Asia-Pacific Airlines in Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC),” the Vice Minister of Transportation, Bambang Susantono, said on the Press Conference of the First Regional Runway Safety Seminar/Workshop Asia-Pacific.
