REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The President of Portugal Republic, Anibal Antonio Cavaco Silva, will visit Indonesia and meet Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) next week. The visit is the first time since the opening of diplomatic relationship between Indonesia and Portugal in 1950.
President Silva would pay a visit for two days, from May 22-24, the Indonesian Presidential Spokesman for Foreign Affairs, Teuku Faizasyah, said. "Portugal President will hold bilateral meeting with Indonesian President on May 22. Then, both of them will witness the signing of some Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)," Faizasyah said on Sunday. SBY will also hold a state dinner to honor Silva.
On May 23, Portugal President is planned to attend Indonesia-Portugal Business Forum, deliver general lecture in Universitas Indonesia, and attend the exhibition on celebrating the fifth century of contact between Indonesian and Portuguese. "This historical visit will be advantaged to strengthen the commitment on building the strong future relationship and cooperation," he added.
