REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The richness of traditional children plays make Indonesia deserve to be called as a heaven for plays. It was also proved by a research, the analyst of traditional play and games, Mohamad Zaini Alif, said. The result says Indonesia has 890 traditional plays spread all over the country.

West Java, for instance, has 250 plays. Lampung has 50 while Central Java has 212 kinds of play. The rest can be found in other provinces.

The aim of Indonesian traditional plays, he said, was not only for fun, but also contained social, intellectual, and spiritual values that can be applied in life. For example, he said, Congklak, a game to move some stones to some holes, which was also found in US, South Afrika, Brazil, and UK, contained local wisdom concept.
