REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Government finally issue a regulation on subsidized fuel restriction started from May 1, 2012. The private cars above 1,500 cc engine should use non-subsidized fuel.

“The restriction is imposed for cars above 1,500cc engine. The regulation will be declared through Governmental Regulation (PP) which consists of Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Minister of Industry, and Minister of Transportation Regulation,” the Minister of Industry, MS Hidayat, said on Friday. “For car produced after 2008, the machine consumes RON 92 fuel,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), Sudirman Maman Rusdi, said the restriction indeed imposed next month, but the socialization should be started now.

“It is not easy to socialize the regulation. The control in gas stations will be hard,” he said.

Rusdi added the restriction could lead to illegal stock piling rush. “Government should pay attention to gas stations in the regions. The operators should be educated with technical knowledge on machine specification. If they do not understand, the consumers having car above 1,500 cc engine will buy subsidized fuel instead,” he said.
