REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JOMBANG - Nahdatul Ulama (NU) in East Java held close meeting in Tebuireng Pesantren, Jombang, East Java on Saturday. The meeting was to discuss the agenda of 2014 Presidential Election, a cleric from Sidoarjo NU, Muhammad Nurhuda, said. The meeting decided to choose Mahfud MD as the candidate of 2014 Indonesian President.

"Mahfud is qualified to be the next Indonesian leader because he is brave," Gus Huda said. Yet, the clerics have not considered the party.

The Chairman of Tebuireng Pesantren, Sulahuddin Wahid, agreed with the clerics’ decision on Mahfud MD. Yet, Mahfud has not given the answer to the proposal.

"I cannot answer it because ethical reason. I'm still the chief of Constitutional Court," Mahfud said after the meeting. He might answer the question next year because his term ends in June 2013.
