REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Bullet hit Agung Tuanany, a student of YAI (Indonesian Administrative Foundation), Thursday night. Now he is still receiving medical treatment in a hospital.
Agung was reported shot by rubber bullet, his sister, Riezky Tuanany, told the chronology. Last night at 18.00, she said, her brother with other students held a protest on fuel price hike in front of YAI campus in Central Jakarta. “They burned a tire in front of his campus, while I protested in front of Jayabaya University,” she said.
A police was offended by their oration. She claimed, the police then provoked other personnel and clashes seemed unavoidable between the police and students.
Before he got shot around 20.00, Agung Tuanany was beaten. “It was recorded by a camera. He was beaten several times,” she said.
Agung then was evacuated inside the campus by his friends. Then on 23.00, Riezky brought her brother to Jayabaya University. “At 04.00, we took him to Islamic Hospital,” she said.
He underwent a surgery to remove a bullet in his right flank. The operation was success and finished at 05.00.
Police’ visit
Several police officers including the Deputy Chief of Jakarta Police Brig Gen Pol Suhardi Alius and Jakarta Police Department Spokesman, Rikwanto, visited Agung Tuanany at the hospital on Friday morning. The police promised to be responsible for all the treatment payment, but Agung rejected the offer. Agung also rejected the police offer to treat him by the police medical team.
Riezky also deplored the last night statement of Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Djoko Suyanto saying that there was no shot victim. “It was nonsense. The fact and proof are in front of us,” she said.
