REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The clash between demonstrators and security officers on Tuesday began when the protesters tried to force their way into the Presidential Palace, the police said. "We were trying to stop them nearby Gambir Railway Station, but they refused so the security officers forcefully dispersed them," Jakarta Regional Police Spokesman Senior Commissioner Rikwanto said on Tuesday.
He said that the demonstrators also tried to provoke the police so they were forced to disperse the protestors to prevent their actions from becoming worse. The Jakarta Police spokesman pointed out that some demonstrators even hurled Molotov cocktails (gasoline bombs) towards the anti-riot police. He revealed that 10 personnel of the Jakarta regional police were injured during the clashes in two spots; near the state palace and outside the House of Representatives (DPR) building.
