REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Minister of Agriculture, Suswono, denies the talk on quota increase of Australian imported beef with Australian minister of trade and husbandry. He said that they talked on cattle breeding investment instead.

"We did not discuss it whatsoever," Suswono said on Thursday. "They also brought some business people who will soon meet Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) for further realization," he added.

Indonesia has been longing for this investment because of the biggest Australia's reliance on Indonesian market. Cattle breeding investment is a better step compared to imported beef. The transfer of information and technology is expected to increase the breeding. The minister also hopes the new investment will open many jobs.

"But we hope the investment is not in the central region of cow production, such as East Java and Central Java," he said. It is important that cattle breeding allocated in across Indonesia. "If it is possible, Sumatera can be a choice," he said. The investment will give significant impact especially for self-sufficient in cattle in 2014.
