REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG – Rumah Yatim Indonesia Foundation builds a specially made apartment for the orphans and the poor, named Yatim Apartment. The three stories building with 884 meter square area is established in 450 meter square area. Located in Bandung, West Java, it has 17 rooms, three classrooms, laboratory, gymnasium, studying room, prayer room, and laundry room. The apartment can hold up to 60 orphans and the poors.
The Director of Rumah Yatim Indonesia Foundation, Ahmad Jaeni, said, Yatim Apartment paved the way to build more apartments alike. “We hope this apartment can help the poor to reach their future,” he said.
Those who want to live in the apartment should meet at least three requirements. The first, they must be at least the big fives in their school. Then, they must have some talent in other subject such art and culture. If they can fulfill those two requirements, they must pass the test held by the foundation. He said, the orphans deserve to get special attention. They sometimes feel unselfconfident and more sensitive.
The apartment was built last May and involved a world class architect, Ridwan Kamil. The basic concept of the building adopts green design by using environmental friendly materials.
Directorate General of Social Services and Rehabilitation from the Ministry of Social, Samsudi, hoped, the apartment could serve the rights of the orphans. Constitutionally, there are many ways to save the orphans, such as foster parents, adoption, and social foundation.
The Governor of West Java, Ahmad Heryawan, said, orphan is a social phenomenon. The accident rate in West Java hits 104 cases per day and 80 percent of it occurs on motorbikers. With the assumption of 90 percent of motorbikers are male, there is a high possibility that a child becomes an orphan.
