REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG – Former Malaysian deputy prime minister, Anwar Ibrahim, praised Indonesian democracy. The process, he said, was a decisive transformation to the future of Indonesia.
“What happened to this country is amazing,” he said, after attending a national meeting of Muslim Students’ Association (HMI) in Bandung on Monday.
Yet, Anwar warned the challenges of the process towards democracy. “The question is whether democratic system can spur economic growth and its result can be enjoyed by all people?” the leading opposition figure said.
Anwar hoped Malaysia could also enjoy democratic system as much as Indonesian. While fraud, he said, always clouded democratic elections in Malaysia.
