REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — State Intelligence Agency (BIN) asserted the institution was not involved in the case of Islam Defenders Front (FPI) leader Habib Rizieq Shihab in Saudi Arabia. The rumor about BIN’s involvement was mentioned on Habib Rizieq's Twitter.
“The accusation over BIN is disturbing Habib Rizieq is not true, our member also does not rented house near him in Saudi Arabia or put up flag and took CCTV,” said BIN spokesman Wawan Hari Purwanto on Thursday (Nov 8).
Wawan stressed there was no evidence over the accusation. He denied BIN engineered the arrest of Habib Rizieq in Saudi Arabia.
“The accusation BIN engineered the arrest of Habib Rizieq by Saudi Arabia police is hoax (fake news),” Wawan added.
BIN obliged to protect all Indonesia’s citizens, including Habib Rizieq, Wawan said. It was not true if there was an assumption that Habib Rizieq is an enemy of state. He also stressed there was no political revenge.
According to him, BIN is state institution that continues to exist even though it has changed its national leadership, and is obliged to keep the development program running smoothly for the people's welfare. Wawan said BIN has never questioned over Habib Rizieq political alliance.
“BIN has never questioned the political alliance of Habib Rizieq. It is someone's right and is legitimate," Wawan added.
Habib Rizieq Shihab
Previously, ustaz Haikal Hassan has denied the rumor over the arrest of Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Grand Imam Habib Rizieq Shihab in Saudi Arabia. He said, it was a vicious slander, which carried out by irresponsible people.
“For the sake of Allah SWT, if I have said this, so Muslims should believe. I can say if Habib Rizieq is in safe, healthy, and in peace condition at his residence in Mecca, Saudi Arabia and there is no arrest against him. Please correct the rumour that circulated, it’s not true,” ustaz Haikal said on Wednesday (Nov 7).
A number of photos that circulated showed Rizieq walked and behind him there was Saudi Arabia police. He was rumored to have been arrested by the authorities there following finding of tawheed (Laa Ilaha Ilallah, the oneness of God) flag patched in the wall of his residence.
