REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANTEN -- Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo reminded regional heads and other officials of the need to be mindful of corruption-prone regions. He asserted that corruption is one of the nation's challenges and threats.

"Please pay attention to corruption-prone regions in the planning of budgets between regional (provincial and district) governments and the Regional Legislative Assembly (DPRD). The budget should be deliberated well," the home affairs minister said, in his speech at the celebration of the anniversary of Banten Province here on Thursday.

He said in a statement that budget planning must be in accordance with the existing mechanism, and in accordance with the existing agreement. Absorbing and channeling the aspirations of the smallest community must be fought for.

Kumolo said the Ministry of Home Affairs currently allows the provision of grants and social assistance funds. But the distribution of grant funds and social assistance must be selective, not to be marked up and corrupted, because it is for the benefit of the community.

The Minister of Home Affairs also reminded regional heads not to "mess around" with Social Security Management Agency (BPJS) funds. On this occasion, the Minister of Home Affairs asked the police and prosecutors to arrest individuals who used BPJS funds, which are designed for the interest of the community.

Other corruption-prone areas, said the Minister of Home Affairs, are levies and taxes, as well as the mechanism for buying and selling goods and services. Therefore, the Minister of Home Affairs requested the partnership of regional governments with the DPRD, to hold discussions in dealing with, and remaining aware of, areas prone to corruption.

The Minister of Home Affairs said, besides areas prone to corruption, the challenges and threats to the nation were terrorism and radicalism. Thus, it requires proper cooperation between the government and the security apparatus, and all elements of society, especially religious leaders and government leaders, in conducting early detection and resisting the threat of terrorism and radicalism.
