REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A public cloud computing service company, Alibaba Cloud, has commenced operation of its first data center in Indonesia. Alibaba Cloud targeted small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups with its low-cost services.

"We have self-confidence in providing a data center, and we will attract more consumers, especially start-ups, because they will spend their funds effectively," Head of Alibaba Cloud for Southeast Asia and New Zealand, Raymond Ma, stated during its launch here on Thursday.

The launch of the data center has become Alibaba Cloud's commitment to support the Indonesian government's initiative to create one thousand start-ups by 2020, Ma noted.

By shifting its information technology infrastructure to public computing, start-up firms could benefit from its established services to improve their innovation and save expenditure.

Alibaba Cloud data center offers products that have been adapted with local companies' demands, such as elastic computing, database service, network, data security, and big data.

Its "Mixcompute" big data platform would allow users to store and process massive amount of structural data.

Ma remarked that the company is open for possible cooperation with local companies in data center services.

"We are open for cooperation with local companies, which also provide data center services. We also have internal process to develop the infrastructure," Ma added.

Alibaba Cloud has helped some online businesses in Indonesia, such as Tokopedia, Dwidaya Tour, and GTech Digital Asia, to innovate their business on cloud.

It ranks as the third largest public cloud services provider globally and is the leading cloud provider in the China market.

The cloud computing arm and business unit of Alibaba Group has international operations registered and headquartered in Singapore, and its international teams are stationed in Dubai, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, London, New York, Paris, San Mateo, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney, and Tokyo.
