Situation in Tanah Abang area seems to be politicized: Anies

Anies to invite angkot drivers ito City Hall to hear their aspirations.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan suspected certain parties politicized situation in Tanah Abang area, Central Jakarta. The chaotic situation triggered by a rally held by a number of public transport (angkot) drivers in the area to protest the closure of Jatibaru Street. The demonstration has caused TransJakarta Bus Tanah Abang Explores operational stopped.

"I hope the situation is not being politicized because Tanah Abang structuring is Insya Allah (God's will) for the good of all," said Anies on Tuesday (Jan 30).

Anies said the aspiration of angkot drivers to reopened Jatibaru street is being discussed with several parties. Jakarta Provincial Government also planned to invite the angkot drivers to the City Hall and hear their thoughts.

"We will talk about this carefully and I also hope all parties see this as a way to solve the problem in Tanah Abang area," Anies added.

Demonstration by angkot drivers in Tanah Abang area has impacted the operational of Tanah Abang Explorer bus. TransJakarta temporarily stopped the free bus service in around the area.

"We will wait and see situation before allowing the bus back on service again," said President Director of PT TransJakarta Budi Kaliwono.

Jatibaru street has been sterile from angkot since December 22, 2017. The Jakarta provincial government tried to ease severe traffic jam in the area by halting angkot access to the road in front of Tanah Abang station from 08:00 am until 18:00 pm.The government also accomodate around 400 street vendors during the street closure.
