REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Governor Anies Rasyid Baswedan has appreciated the progress of development of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) in the capital city. He lauded the performance of TP MRT Jakarta. "The progress of the MRT development has reached 90.25 percent," the governor said, while visiting the office of PT MRT Jakarta at Wisma Nusantara building in Jalan MH Thamarin in Central Jakarta, on Thursday.

He stated that the 90.25 percent progress includes 85 percent elevated lines and 95 percent underground lines. He acknowledged the MRT construction is the result of hard work and cooperation. "It is Indonesia's strategic project, and this is the first time Indonesia will have underground railways," Baswedan noted.

Furthermore, he also expected the rail-based mass transportation facilities to be used as a pilot project at the national scale in the future. "I hope the MRT development in Jakarta can be an example of a national project undertaken by young people of the nation and would provide an insight to build the future," he remarked.

During the visit, he advised PT MRT Jakarta to not only become a company that provides mass transportation for the people but also, at the same time, to make MRT a melting pot for the citizens.

"MRT can be a melting pot of Jakarta and Indonesia," he explained. "The MRT will start a habit of bringing together citizens from various circles, thus building interaction between residents," he emphasized.
