Unidentified assailants splash chemical liquid to Novel Baswedan

An investigator of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Novel Baswedan was in the wheel chair as he was transferred to eye hospital, Jakarta, Tuesday (April 11).

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- An investigator of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Novel Baswedan was splashed with chemical liquid by two unidentified assailants. It was happened on Deposito Street, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta at about 05.01 a.m.

Chief of Kelapa Gading Sectoral Police Commissioner Argo Wiyono said, when the incident was happened on Tuesday (April 4), Novel was on his way to home after taking a prayer in Al Ikhsan Mosque. Two men suddenly came to him and splashed unidentified acid to his face. 

The assailants run away while Novel was taken to Mitra Keluarga Hospital in Kelapa Gading. Police said Novel's eyelids were swelled after the incident. His forehead also swelled as he hit a tree. Police was having an investigation by getting information from some witnesses on the field.  

A Commissioner of National Commission for Human Rights Maneger Nasution condemned the repeated terror and intimidation given to Novel. This was not the first terror and intimidation happened to Novel. Last year, he became hit and run victim of a car while he drove his motorcycle to his office in Kuningan, South Jakarta. Some years ago, he ever been sued on a crime case as a prisoner died when he served as an investigator in Bengkulu. 

Maneger believed the people would conclude that the series of strikes against Novel were related to big corruption cases that he handled. "It's not easy to deny public perception that all the terrors came after Novel led the investigation of some scandals," said Maneger in a press release on Tuesday. 

Novel had been handling a corruption case on driving lisence simulator project some years ago with General Inspector Djoko Susilo as the convict. Recently, Novel also handled a mega-corruption case on  e-KTP (e-ID) procurement.
