House leaders, President Joko Widodo to discuss regional elections

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The House leaders and chairman of Commission II met President Joko Widodo to discuss simultaneous regional elections (Pilkada).

The house leaders who attended the meeting were Deputy Speaker Setya Novanto, Vice Chairman Fadli Zon, Agus Hermanto, Fachri Hamzah, and Taufik Kurniawan.

The leaders of Commission II Rambe Kamaruzaman from Golkar, Ahmad Riza Patria from Gerindra, Wahidin Halim from Democrat, and Mustafa Kamal from the PKS, among others, attended the meeting.

Before the meeting, Kamaruzaman affirmed that the house leaders and the president will hold a discussion on organizing Pilkada simultaneously.

"It should be discussed thoroughly. If we want to revise the 2015 Local Elections Law, we should consult with the president," Kamaruzaman remarked here on Monday.

He revealed that there are several points related to the 2015 Local Elections Law that should be revised.

"We should not interfere in the schedule and Pilkada program," he emphasized.

Related to the revision, Kamaruzaman proposed that the Pilkada should run efficiently and effectively.

"The principle of holding efficient and effective Pilkada should be included in the revised Local Elections Law," he added.
