Invest hajj fund in Saudi Arabia: Kalla

Kalla says investment in Saudi Arabia would be highly profitable.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla has instructed the saving of hajj pilgrimage funds in Saudi Arabia, Anggito Abimanyu, a member of Hajj Finance Management Body (BPKH), said here on Friday. Investment in Saudi Arabia would be highly profitable with many umrah pilgrims from Indonesia, Anggito Abimanyu said.

"The instruction of Vice President Jusuf Kalla to invest in Saudi Arabia is based on the high return and to be safe from the risk of fall in exchange rate, especially as there are many umrah pilgrims from Indonesia," Anggito said.

He said currently saving of hajj fund totaled around Rp102.5 trillion

"The fund could be invested in Saudi Arabia or in Indonesia but our focus is Saudi Arabia," he said.

Anggito along with President's Special Envoy for Middle East Alwi Shihab met with Kalla to discuss follow up on government's plan to invest in Saudi Arabia using hajj pilgrimage saving fund. In a near future, BPKH and Alwi will visit Saudi to meet wtih potential investors.

Indonesia is keen to invest on waqf land belongs to Aceh's provincial government located in Ajyad, about 400 meters from Masjidil Haram, Mecca. A hotel and cater service company can be built there to benefit the Acehnese during their stay in Mecca.
