REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) is set to hold a mass gathering in the National Monument (Monas) square in Central Jakarta on Sunday (Dec 17) to show solidarity with Palestine.
"MUI will invite all stakeholders, including mass organizations, figures of different faiths, diplomats, and the public, to attend the gathering, which will start at 05.00 a.m. local time on Sunday (Dec 17)," MUI chairman Kiai Ma'ruf Amin told a press conference held at MUI Head Office here on Tuesday.
According to MUI, the US unilateral recognition of Jerusalem as Israeli capital is not religiously motivated but is the systematic colonization of Palestine, which must be opposed by the world community.
Kiai Ma'ruf asked Muslims worldwide to recite Qunut Nazilah as a manifestation of their spiritual support for the integrity and safety of Palestinians against colonization and tyranny.
Qunut Nazilah is an invocation read with the intention of seeking Allah's protection from a particular disaster or tragedy.
MUI also called on other countries, particularly Middle Eastern counties such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Gulf countries, to stay united to oppose colonization and any attempt to pit them against the others.
By doing so, there will be strong solidarity to oppose the colonization of Palestine, he remarked.
"Palestine is a state with Jerusalem as its capital," he added.
Indonesia is opposed to any form of colonization on the Earth because it runs counter to humanitarian values, as contained in the fourth paragraph of the 1945 Constitution concerning the goal of Indonesian state, he noted.
MUI is opposed to the US policy regarding Jerusalem, because it has added to global uncertainty, he revealed.
The policy confirms the US double standard policy, in which, one hand, the US acted as if it is a democracy champion, while, on other hand, it also supports the Israeli colonization of Palestine, he remarked.
