REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The second largest Muslim community in Indonesia, Muhammadiyah prepared a field hospital in affected areas of typhoon Haiyan in Philippines. It is built by Muhammadiyah's Disaster Management Center (MDMC) and operating for two weeks. 

Secretary of Institute for Disaster Management in Muhammadiyah, Arif Nur Kholis explained that they would immediately send the second team to the disaster areas. In the first stage, Muhammadiyah sent medical aids to region of Ormoc City in Leyte Island.

"We try to set a field hospital there," Kholis said recently.

Medical Team Coordinator of MDMC, dr Corona Rintawan said that medical team in Philippines has donated more than 200 million USD in two weeks. The aid consists of health services, medicines and medical teams. The health team consists of various backgrounds, such as physicians, anesthesiologists, nurses, logisticians and SAR.

"Muhammadiyah health team has been served 1,129 patients for seven days," Rintawan said.

Team gives various medicines, such as antibiotics, gastrointestinal medicine and tetanus vaccination. Rintawan also asked Indonesian government, mass organizations and volunteers to help each other to set a field hospital in Leyte. This region is very severely damaged. All facilities and infrastructure destroyed.
