REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National Mandate Party (PAN) Honorary Council Chairman Amien Rais made a prediction that Anies Baswedan someday to be savior of the country. He acted like a fortune teller as the Jakarta Governor came to the stage to greet him during commemoration of the first anniversary of Ustazah Peduli Negeri at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday (April 24).
At the stage, Anies and Amien shook hands. Amien did not release Anies's hand immediately. He was aware the audience were rowdy cheering the Jakarta governor.
"I'm going to make a prediction through his hand. Insya Allah (Gods will) he will be a savior of this country," said Amien while holding Anies' hand.
The audience replied with "amen". Anies did not say a word about the prediction. He smiled and laughed upon it.
Amien then continued his speech and told the story of Anies-Sandiaga Uno journey in winning DKI Jakarta gubernatorial election (pilkada) in 2017.
According to him, Anies and Deputy Governor Sandiaga were predicted to lose the election due to lack of logistics. However, they came out as the winners.
"Sometimes we think lack of logistics means we can't win the election, but it's not, Amien added.
After the event, when being confirmed about his prediction on Anies, Amien laughed. He said he was only testing the audience.
"To see their reaction," he said.
