REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party will soon declare its general chairman Prabowo Subianto to run for the presidency in the 2019 election. The announcement will be made in a forum possibly during national leadership meeting (Rapimnas) or a national working meeting (Rakornas).
"The regional executive boards of Gerindra Party across Indonesia has declared their support for Mr. Prabowo's presidential candidacy, and so has the central executive board. It is a matter of time to decide the forum," Chief of the Gerindra Executive Board Ahmad Riza Patriadi said on the sidelines of a hearing between the House Commission II and the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the General Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) at the parliament building here on Thursday.
Riza expressed optimism that Prabowo Subianto will win the presidential election. This will be the second time for Prabowo Subianto to run for the presidency after he narrowly lost to Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in the 2014 presidential election.
Asked about a discourse on the creation of a third axis in the presidential elections, Riza said he warmly welcomed the discourse which he said showed that democracy process runs well.
"Mr. Prabowo wants the democracy process to run well," he said.
