3 real incidents ulema attack, 42 other cases hoax: Police

The three real incidents of ulemas attack happened in East Java and West Java.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National Police Archipleago Task Force (Satgas Nusantara) head, Insp. Gen. Gatot Eddy Pramono said there were three real incidents from 45 cases related to alleged violent attacks on ulemas and religious leaders. He asserted 42 other cases were fake news.

Gatot explained 42 incidents were divided into three categories. First, the events were engineered. Second, it was general criminal but went viral on social medias as if the victims were ulemas and religious leaders and perpetrators were people with metal disorders. Third, the incident of attack on ulemas never happened, but the fake news spreaded through social media.

The three real incidents happened in West Java and East Java. From the investigation, the police did not find a correlation between one incident to another.

"We have not found a correlation between the three incidents in West Java and East Java, but we found the linkage of the cases in social media," Gatot explained.

Earlier, Cyber Crime National Police director Brig. Gen. Fadil Imran said Family Muslim Cyber Army (MCA) is the group behind all those fake news. The group has allegedly spreaded provocative issues related to sentiments against tribal affiliation, religion, race, and societal groups (SARA) through social medias and chat applications.

Six administrators of the group have been arrested. Fadil said among the administrators of MCA, there are former Saracen group administrators.
