REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Police assessed Muslim Cyber Army has affiliation with the Saracen group. The two groups are known to have spread false news in a number of areas in Indonesia.

Cyber Crime Director at the National Police Brigadier General Fadil Imran said the perpetrators were connected to each other. "Perpetrators who joined MCA are also affiliated to ex Saracen cluster," he said at National Police headquarters on Monday (March 5).

The police made their conclusion after analyzing fake news on the attack to ulemas in East Java, West Java, and Banten. Perpetrators from MCA group are the remaining of Saracen uncaught members. "The perpetrator in East Java, Banten and West Java are group or certain people who join MCA and former Saracen. It is obvious," he reiterated.

Fadil said, just as Saracen, there is a mastermind behind MCA. The police are still investigating the mastermind. "We will continue to work to eliminate hoax, fake news and slander," he remarked.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Nusantara Task Force police Ins. Gen. Gatot Eddy Pramono said the Muslim Cyber Army has been politically motivated in spreading hoaxes and labels through social media. MCA spread false news containing labels, hate speech and attacks on religious leaders to create rift.

"The motive is political. By spreading hoaxes, they hope to degrade the government, trigger public unrest, split the nation and ultimately create big social conflict," Gatot, an expert staff of the police chief for social economy, said here on Monday.
