212 alumni to stage reunion as planned

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Alumni 212 National Congress chairman, Bernard Abdul Jabbar claimed he has received permission to stage 212 alumni reunion on December 2. 

According to Jabbar, notification letter on the event has been sent two weeks ago to the National Police, Jakarta Metro Police and Jakarta provincial governmnet.

He also claimed to have received a receipt from Jakarta Metro Police related to the implementation of the agenda. 

"Insya Allah, we already have (permission)," said Jabbar to Republika.co.id, Tuesday (November 28).

He hoped all series of 212 alumni reunion would run smoothly in the National Monument (Monas) area, Central Jakarta. 

Jabbar admitted that Jakarta Metro Police suggested the reunion not to be held in Monas, but in Istiqlal Mosque. 

He said, since it was only an advice, he decided to stick with the plan.

Jabbar said, the preparation for the reunion is already complete. 

A number of field coordinators and assigned members according to their respective sections, have prepared all the neccessities. 

"Let's wait for the D-day," he said.

The National Movement to Guard the Indonesian Council of Ulama's Fatwa (GNPF MUI) was carrying the same aspiration as the previous series of rally, which was law enforcement against Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) in the case of blasphemy. 

Ahok was convicted for two years for blasphemy.
