Officer explains the reason Ahok is transferred from Cipinang prison to Mako Brimob

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) is now detained at Mobile Brigade Headquarter (Mako Brimob), Kelapa Dua, Depok, West Java. The convicted in blasphemy case was transferred from Cipinang Correctional Institution, East Jakarta, early dawn on Wednesday. 

Head of Cipinang Correctional Institution Asep Sutandar said there was an uproar in front of the prison. Ahok and other prisoners felt disturbed by the noise from outside. 

Since Ahok arrived at the prison on Tuesday afternoon, his supporters kept on coming to have a demonstration to free him. Regarding the number of protesters, Asep worried it will cause disruption of the security. Moreover, Asep explained Cipinang Prison only have 20 officers.

The mass stayed in front of Cipinang Correctional Institution until late at night. They even tried to knock down the fence and burnt the tire. "Other prisoners were disturbed because of this," Asep said to Republika.co.id, Wednesday.

In addition, families of the prisoners would also face difficulty when visiting the institution if Ahok continues to be detained in Cipinang.

Therefore, Asep asked the police to take Ahok to Mako Brimob.

East Jakarta Police Chief Sr Comr Andry Wibowo said the transfer was processed since Tuesday night at 22.00 local time. "Ahok was taken to Mako Brimob at around 01.00 am on Wednesday," said Andry.
