Habib Rizieq’s case status rises to investigation

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Attorney General, M. Prasetyo, said the level of the alleged defamation case involving Habib Muhammad Rizieq Shihab in West Java Police arose into the investigation, since Tuesday (January 17).

"It gone up yesterday in the West Java High Court. They have received a notification letter of investigations (SPDP)," he said after opening a meeting between Indonesian Attorney Association (ISPs) in the Attorney General Office in South Jakarta, Thursday.

Prasetyo also said that the high court would wait for the progress of the investigation of the West Java Police investigators. When the results of the investigation were completed, the file would be immediately transferred to the public prosecutor for investigation.

"In principle, anyone, everyone has the same rights and duties before the law, anyone who were found to have violated the law will be prosecuted," said Prasetyo.

West Java High Court Attorney, Arimuladi Setia Untung, said he received the SPDP on Tuesday (January 17). He claimed to not give a deadline for the investigation process. He waited for the police to submit the first level case files. 

Untung said he cannot comment on the case. When being reaffirmed whether the Rizieq has become a suspect, he said the reporters to ask to the police. As known, Rizieq was reported on allegations of an insult against Pancasila. 

The police have not set him as a suspect, but indeed update the process to the investigation level. Next week, West Java Police will hold case screening to determine next step. "After that, there will be investigation on Habib Rizieq as witness," Chief of Public Relations of West Java Police Comr Yusri Yunus at Gedung Sate, Bandung, West Java, on Thursday.

So far, the police has questioned 13 witnessess.
