Seeking justice in the case of bloody 121 rally

Thousands of mass had a demonstration in front of National Police headquarter, Jakarta, on Monday (1/16).

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA --  Thousand of mass long marched from Al Azhar Grand Mosque to National Police headquarter, Jakarta, on Monday. They wanted to deliver aspirations to the police. The bloody Thursday (January 12) has sparked their concern.

That day, the Grand Imam of Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Habib M Rizieq Shihab interviewed by Bandung Metro Police regarding this speech alleged insult on Pancasila as a state symbol and the dignity of Sukarno who proclaimed the independence of Indonesia. The daughter of the first president of Indonesia who is also the Chairperson of PNI Marhaenisme party, Sukmawati, has reported Rizieq on October 10, 2016. 

Sukmawati made the report based on a video of Habib Rizieq speech on 2014. Rizieq said, "Pancasila proposed by Sukarno placed Deity at the butt, while Pancasila in Jakarta Charter placed Deity at the head." It went viral in Youtube channel.

Meanwhile, after being questioned by West Java Metro Police on Thursday (January 12), Rizieq explained to the mass that he never insult the founding father nor Pancasila as state symbol. He criticized Bung Karno’s view on Pancasila, especially on the principle of God. "In bahasa Indonesia, we said everything that was placed at the very last number with the term "nomor buncit"," he said.

Rizieq reiterated Pancasila should be commemorated not on July 1, but July 22. Rizieq got the conclusion after underwent research prepared for his thesis while taking the master degree program at a Malaya University, Malaysia. "A thesis should not be confronted with a police report. It should be confronted with other thesis. I feel criminalized," said Rizieq to reporters.

After giving explanation to his supporters, Rizieq asked them to go home in orderly. The opposite side, the mass from Indonesian Grass root Movement (GMBI) wanted to make sure the police detain Rizieq at the same day. The two groups involved in a clash late in the January 12 afternoon. "There were persecution, beatings, and the attempted murder by GMBI activists," Chairman of Activists Alliance and the Muslim Community Tasikmalaya (Al Mumtaz), Ustaz Hilmi Afwan, on Monday after a rally in front of the local Parliament building. 

In the other hand, GMBI tried to investigate the possibility of third party's role in the bloody clash on 121 rally. It happened throughout Thursday until Friday. "There was an indication of provocation because during the rally up until it was dismissed, there was no friction between GMBI and FPI," legal staff of GMBI, Fidelis Giawa, said on Friday (January 13).

Police observers, Bambang Widodo Umar, criticized the West Java police chief Inspector General Anton Charliyan known as an advisor GMBI. Bambang asserted, the case of a clash should not happen. Bambang said, the police action at that time tended like thugs and inappropriate to do in a state of law. For that, Bambang urged national police investigate the case thoroughly.

Meanwhile, after the rally in front of the National Police Headquarter, FPI Spokesman Munarman mentioned he has spoke to he Head of Public Information Bureau Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General of Police and the Commissioner of Police Rikwanto Awi Setiyono about the alleged of unprofessionalism of the West Java police chief Inspector General of Police Anton Charlian who allowed the unscrupulous acts of persecution by other community organizations to scholars and Muslims students.

Munarman said the clerics demanded the police to restore their role of protector and steward to the community. The mass asked the police not to support and protect thug groups. Rikwanto promised to follow up and investigates the report involving West Java police chief.
