REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU -- Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) of Pekanbaru detected 352 hot spots spread across five provinces in Sumatra. Based on the data, in Pekanbaru on Tuesday (6/10) at 16.00 pm hotspots mostly occurred in South Sumatra with 287 spots.
"Furthermore, in Lampung there were 45 hotspots, in Jambi there were nine hotspots, in Bangka Belitung there were four hotspots, and in Bangka Belitung seven hotspots," said Head of BMKG of Pekanbaru, Sugarin.
He stated that BMKG did not detect any hotspots in Riau although in the morning, there was a hot spot in Indragiri Hilir. However, smog in some areas in Riau were still quite thick and the visibility ranges were from 100 meters to 500 meters. Thick smog in Bengkalis and Siak was reported interfere the activities of local residents.
Airports Authority of Sultan Syarif Kasim II Pekanbaru stated 68 flight schedules on Tuesday were canceled due to the smog.
"Today as a whole, there were 70 flight schedules and 68 of them were canceled," said Airport Duty Manager of Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport (SSK II) Pekanbaru, Ibnu Hasan.
He explained that the two airlines were still on schedule, namely Garuda Indonesia flight number GA 198 and Lion Air JT 392 at 20:30 pm. Meanwhile, Airlines that have canceled flights were Citilink, Air Asia, Sriwijaya, Garuda Indonesia, Malindo, Lion Air and Fire Fly.
