REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SLEMAN -- The first winner of the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) in 2015, Joandy Leonata Pratama, was shocked when he heard his name was called as a participant that got highest point. Joandy, who is from SMA Sutomo Medan, apparently did not think that he would be the champion. Even though, last year he achieved bronze medal from the same event.
"When I heard my name, I felt confused, shocked, but also proud," he said, in Prambanan Temple, Tuesday (4/8).
Joandy said his struggle to learn about astronomy for four months was not in vain. If last year the quarantine process only lasted for three months, this year he had longer preparation, but came with satisfactory results. Joandy explained that since the eighth grade he was interested in astronomy.
"I really like watching around. I observe the sky," he added.
According to him, by observing the sky he was amazed at God's creations. Humans are so small.
"We're great because we are part of the stars," he said with a cheerful face.
As a world champion for astronomy and astrophysics, Joandy wants to guide his juniors in the national team for IOAA next year.
"Me and my friends are also guided by seniors who had attended previous olympic of astronomy," said Joandy.
