REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The leader of Daarut Tauhid Islamic Boarding Schools Abdullah Gymnastiar (Aa Gym) said all parties should respect others’ opinion and preference. He said different perspectives were common, so it should not bring enmities and harm. He conveyed the messeges a day prior Jakarta gubernatorial election.

“It was common and not a problem if Christian preachers encourage their people to choose Christian leaders. On the other hand, it was the right of Islamic preachers and leaders to suggest Muslims to choose leader with the same faith. It was common and was not a mistake,” said him to Republika.co.id on Tuesday (April 18).

He said all parties brought responsibility in their life and hereafter to decide their choice. Every vote should be based on the believe that it would be counted by Allah. He said the voters should have right intention and ways.

Aa Gym hoped that all the candidates and their sympathizers would show their honesty. Good manners and responsibility would also bring the election to peace, security, honesty and justice. It would be good model for other region.

“For the Muslims, please be sure that the decision was only in the right of Allah and the effort is part of worship,” he said quoting Ali Imron verse 26.

Aa Gym hoped God would grant Jakarta with a believer leader, believe in one God, a leader that could be role model, has the best character and has the ability to lead in a professional, fair and trustworthy manner. "May he able to lead us closer and loved by God and we become a nation that is blessed by Allah," he said.
