REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Hizbut Tahrir (HTI) has denied the accusation claiming that the organization was not positively active in the nation's development.

"Through HTI's movement, we are making an important contribution towards developing this nation's manpower to have noble characteristics and to obey God," HTI spokesperson Muhammad Ismail Yusanto stated during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Apart from this, the HTI was also involved in criticizing the liberal rules that were viewed to be detrimental to the nation, such as the law on petroleum, natural resources, and capital investment.

"We know that we have a major problem in the education sector, such as group violence, drugs, free sex, and teenage crimes. This demonstrates that the existing education system is still not able to make it through. This is where the sector needs help from the people, and the HTI contributes through our activities," he noted.

The HTI has also raised awareness against drugs and opposed separatism and disintegration efforts. The organization has also been involved in disaster relief activities, such as during the Aceh tsunami and Yogyakarta earthquake in 2006.

"Hence, the accusation leveled against the HTI for not doing any positive things is not true," Ismail emphasized.

To this end, the HTI has urged the government to stop curbing the activities of the organization as stated by Coordinator Minister for Politics, Law, and Security Affairs Wiranto during a press conference on Monday, May 8.

According to Wiranto's press statement, HTI was viewed as not making any positive efforts to develop the nation to achieve the national goals, and the activities held by the organization had triggered public clashes that could hinder social security and order, which is detrimental to Indonesia.

The events held by the HTI also strongly indicated that they ran counter to the goals, values, and norms based on Pancasila and UUD 1945 as stipulated in Law No 17 of 2013 on public organization.
